Worship on Sunday

The church values its Sunday services with a mix of high-quality preaching, music and meaningful worship. Usually following the lectionary, the services have a considered structure. We have one service on a Sunday morning and celebrate Communion twice a month, on the first and third Sundays. Services are streamed on YouTube for those who are unable to attend in person. Although our services are structured formally, our general approach is informal, and infants often remain during the service.

Hymns and songs are drawn from a range of sources, including Baptist Praise and Worship, the Iona Community (Wild Goose), Taizé, Mission Praise and high-quality modern hymnary found in sources such as Singing the Faith, the Church Hymnary and Sing Praise.

Prayer

A monthly prayer calendar is issued in print and electronically so that all the members of the fellowship may remember each other in prayer. If you would like to be added to our prayer list, please let the office know or fill out a form which can be found in the foyer.

Youth at DBC

We run Young Church activities twice a month on Communion Sundays (first and third). The children and young people leave the service, after an all-age introduction, for their own groups. We use the Roots material which is based on the same lectionary readings as those used for the service. On the other Sundays, the older young people are encouraged to be part of the congregation, and the younger children can do craft activities at the back of the sanctuary.

Young people aged 11–16 are invited to attend the annual Impact Weekend organised by the North Western Baptist Association. This offers them the opportunity to socialise with the members of their own group and meet with young people from other churches.

Baptism and Membership

Anyone interested in being baptised or joining the church membership should speak with one of the deacons or another church member. We would be happy to talk with you!

Church Social Events

Tea and coffee are served after the service every Sunday and most people stay to enjoy fellowship and to meet any visitors.

Church bring-and-share lunches are held about four times a year after morning worship, when the congregation is invited to bring food to share.

We also have a Midsummer Mix programme – a series of social events which takes place from mid-July to the end of August. In the past, these have included games evenings, a picnic, afternoon tea at the home of some members, how to cook an Indian curry and an evening of prayer.

Every year or two the church goes on a weekend away. This might be to the Lakes or the Peaks or some other location where we share meals, activities and time together.

Friday Friends

Friday Friends is a community outreach opportunity where all are invited to share a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. It is for all ages to meet people, visit and make new friends.
