The building was begun in 1900, modified in 1972 and further developed in 2012. It opened as a Baptist church in 1901 (as intended when the church was established) but closed after a few years owing to insufficient support. From 1911 to 1926 the building was leased by the Plymouth Brethren. It re-opened as a place of Baptist worship in 1927, and the fellowship was formally constituted the following year.

During the 1970s and 80s the church was served by a ministry team comprised of ordained ministers who had roles elsewhere, ministers in training (at Northern Baptist College) and lay people whose focus was on pastoral care. The church has had full-time ministry since 1990, initially with the aid of a Home Mission Grant, but has been self-supporting for almost thirty years. There have been three full-time ministers since 1990; the most recent retired from the pastorate in April 2024.

Didsbury Baptist Church is currently seeking a new full-time minister, accredited by the Baptist Union. For those interested in applying to the position, the details of our church profile and what we are seeking in a new minister can be found by searching the Baptist Union settlement page (accessible to accredited ministers only).
