Didsbury Arts Festival 2012

We are pleased to be hosting a number of events for the Didsbury Arts Festival again this year. The Festival takes place from Thursday to Sunday 27-30 September. It promises to be an excellent festival and details can found here.

Three events will take place at Didsbury Baptist Church:

Friday 28 September, 7.30pmImage
Flamenco de la Vuelta
£8 / £7 Concessions
‘Flamenco de la Vuelta’ is a brand new collaboration of UK based flamenco artists. Featuring music by singer Chico Pere and guitarist Glenn Sharp, with the dance of Gloria Lopez Castejon. ‘Flamenco de la Vuelta’ was originally a short film made by director, Guillermo Ibanez, featuring these artists and is now a live performance created for the Didsbury Arts Festival 2012.

Saturday 29 September, 7.30pm
Border Fiction
Comma Press presents three exciting authors, whose short story collections cross personal and political borders. Jane Rogers’ collection, Hitting Trees with Sticks, ranges from Uganda to Australia to the West Indies. Zoe Lambert’s The War Tour paints a picture of the world’s conflict zones, giving voice to the silenced casualties. Michele Green’s forthcoming Jebel Marra, explores the complexities of the ongoing war in Darfur.

Sunday 30 September, 7.30pm
Frambuesa Tango Quintet
£5 (in aid of St Ann’s Hospice)
Frambuesas are musicians from the Halle orchestra and friends. They will perform classic Argentinian tangos, concert tangos by Piazzolla and be joined by Didsbury dancer Belinda Gough, star of the Manchester tango scene, and her partner. A rare chance to experience the Tango and support St Ann’s Hospice.

We look forward to seeing you at any or all of these events!

Didsbury Churches Big Picnic

Tomorrow, after morning worship, we will be joining with other Didsbury churches for a picnic at the Nazarene College – come and join us if you can!

Christian Aid Week 2012

This is Christian Aid Week (13-19 May)! Didsbury Baptist Church, along with other local churches, will participate in the door-to-door collection for our area. We will also take up a special offering in church. If you cannot give in these ways but would like to make a contribution, you can donate on-line at the Christian Aid Week website here.

Holy Week at the cross

I haven’t seen it yet but by now a cross should have been erected in Didsbury village on the land next to Caffe Nero. Every day this week people will gather there at 1pm for quiet meditation and witness. Each day, a different Didsbury church will lead a reflection using the last words of Jesus spoken from the cross. If you are in the area, come and join us. You would be very welcome.

Grand opening of our newly refurbished church building

After years of fund-raising and planning and after seven months of holding our church services at Beaver Road Primary School, we are delighted to be back in our own building. Our century-old church building (built in 1900 actually) has been renovated and extended. It now has a new main entrance and foyer on School Lane. New rooms include an office, a small meeting room, kitchen and toilets. The sanctuary has been completely refurbished and new windows are currently being installed. The ground floor is entirely accessible throughout. Extensive renovations have also been made to the Beaver Road entrance, foyer and hallway. The Marion Scott Playgroup and Beaver Road PlayStation are now fully operational at the Beaver Road end of the building and other community groups have now resumed their evening activities in the upstairs hall.

Celebrations to mark the opening of our newly refurbished building will take place from Saturday 14 January 2012. These will include:

Saturday 14 January

If you can make any of these events, we’d be delighted to see you.

Songs of Praise

As a curtain closer for Didsbury Arts Festival, Churches Working Together in Didsbury will be joining together for a Songs of Praise evening at Christ Church, West Didsbury (Corner of Darley Avenue and Princess Road) tomorrow evening. Each church will introduce a favourite hymn. We will sing and worship God together and afterwards refreshments will be served. If you are near Didsbury on Sunday why not join us? All are welcome.
