Christian Aid Evening at DBC tonight

Join us tonight to get inspired and ready for Christian Aid Week 2015 (10-15 May)

An evening on the Communion of Saints

Saints evening 500x

This is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (18-25 January). To celebrate this, we are to host an evening on the Communion of Saints on Tuesday 20 Jan at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend what we hope will be an open and ecumenical conversation. Brian Haymes and Richard Kidd, co-authors, with Paul Fiddes, of Baptists and the Communion of Saints will help us to think about a neglected doctrine not usually associated with Baptists. Please join us if you can and bring your questions!

Streams in the desert

On Wednesday 5 March, the season of Lent begins. Churches working together in Didsbury have again published a booklet of Bible reading notes for the season. Copies are available from Christ Church West Didsbury, Didsbury Community Church, Didsbury Methodist Church, Didsbury United Reformed Church, East Didsbury Methodist Church, St Christopher’s Withington, St James and Emmanuel, the Welsh Presbyterian Church and, of course, from us at Didsbury Baptist Church. Help yourself to a copy and read the Bible with us through Lent.

Didsbury Churches Big Picnic

Tomorrow, after morning worship, we will be joining with other Didsbury churches for a picnic at the Nazarene College – come and join us if you can!

Christian Aid Presentation at DBC

Earlier today I met with Anne Hillier and Dave Hardman to make plans for the presentation that will be given here on Friday. Come and discover what Christian Aid is doing around the world; it will be a great night.

Once and For All at DBC

On Friday 20 April at 7.30 pm the Christian Aid Presentation Once and for All will be given at Didsbury Baptist Church. This exciting multi media event shows what the world looks like through the eyes of the poorest people, and what each of us can do to help those in poverty out of poverty. Using powerful personal stories, stunning images and beautiful, original songs Once and for All reveals how our prayers, actions and donations are bringing hope and healing to those crippled by poverty all over the world. Packed with encouragement and audience participation the show will equip us all to put our faith into action and to work to eradicate extreme poverty once and for all. Join us on Friday and be inspired to act!

Holy Monday at Didsbury Cross

Churches Working Together in Didsbury have erected a cross on the land next to Caffe Nero in Didsbury. This week is Holy Week and each day there will be a gathering at the cross at 1pm for a few minutes of prayerful reflection. A few of us met there for the first time today. The photo shows part of the group; I recognise people from four different churches in our area. Further details of this week’s programme can be found on the CWTiD website. If you are in the area and free at 1pm on any day of this week, please join us; you would be very welcome.

Holy Week at the cross

I haven’t seen it yet but by now a cross should have been erected in Didsbury village on the land next to Caffe Nero. Every day this week people will gather there at 1pm for quiet meditation and witness. Each day, a different Didsbury church will lead a reflection using the last words of Jesus spoken from the cross. If you are in the area, come and join us. You would be very welcome.

Songs of Praise

As a curtain closer for Didsbury Arts Festival, Churches Working Together in Didsbury will be joining together for a Songs of Praise evening at Christ Church, West Didsbury (Corner of Darley Avenue and Princess Road) tomorrow evening. Each church will introduce a favourite hymn. We will sing and worship God together and afterwards refreshments will be served. If you are near Didsbury on Sunday why not join us? All are welcome.

Easter Happenings

As we continue to celebrate the Season of Easter at Didsbury Baptist Church, we are anticipating a number of key events and happenings in our life together:

Three of our members will be attending the Baptist Assembly this weekend. This will be held in Blackpool and it begins today. You can learn more about it by clicking here.

After that we will be preparing, as a congregation, for the start of building work that we believe will greatly improve our capacity for ministry and mission in our community. We are about to make final decisions on appointing a builder, closing and clearing our sanctuary, and relocating our Sunday services while the work is carried out. More here when final decisions are made!

There will be a final concert in our sanctuary (as it is currently configured) on Saturday 7 May at 7.30 p.m. The twenty five piece band Swingin Affair will perform. Tickets are £6 and £4 concessions and proceeds will be divided between Francis House Children’s Hospice and our building project.

Christian Aid Week will also take place during the Easter Season (15-21 May) and we, along with Christians of all denominations,  are preparing for it now. Churches working Together in Didsbury will hold a special service to launch Christian Aid Week in our area. This will be held at East Didsbury Methodist Church on Sunday 15 May at 6.30 p.m.
