Today’s readings are: Psalm 70; Isaiah 38.9–20; Matthew 17.1–13.
I wonder, if you had been on the mountain when, according to Matthew, Jesus ‘was transfigured before’ Peter, James and John whether you would have seen anything? Jesus himself refers to the experience as ‘a vision’ (v.9). Perhaps it takes eyes of faith to see Jesus in this way and a willing disposition to hear the words: ‘listen to him’ (v.5).
Well I suppose at this time of year even the wider culture thinks of Jesus as light shining in the darkness. Still, it takes more than sentimentality to look beyond the shining light to hear Jesus and to follow him down the mountain to the place of crucifixion, and resurrection.
‘Dear Jesus, give me eyes to see, ears to hear and a will to do your will; amen.’

To echo what you said Robert. I pray for eyes of faith, ears to hear and feet to follow.
I love the verse ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased.’ I must remember to tell my “beloveds” that I am ‘well pleased’ with them.
